In sports, injuries are not very rare as players get involved in activities, like running, jumping, etc. So, a minor imbalance can cause a sports injury. Now, among all the types of common injuries, the knee injury is one of the most common types.

ACL tear and meniscal tear are two of the common injuries that occur around the knee area. These injuries can be caused by sudden stopping, an instant change in direction, improper landing after a jump and many more. So, let’s have a look at some prevention tips for any kind of sports injury and the best treatment methods if you get one.

Tips to Prevent Sports Injury

  • Warm Up Properly: It’s often seen that sports people skip a comprehensive warm-up and get away with a few exercises. It’s a major reason for sports injuries as it results in a lack of flexibility. So, make sure to stick to a comprehensive warm-up routine.

  • Strength Training: In addition to flexibility, building strength is also important. It is especially crucial to prevent knee injuries and other related problems. With strong muscles around your knee, you can support your ACL, meniscal and overall knee.

  • Wear Appropriate Gears: No matter what sports you are in, make sure that you are wearing the proper clothes for the sports. For example, in sports like basketball and football, there’s a lot of sudden stopping and jumping. So, make sure to wear a kneecap to prevent knee injuries. Similarly, other gears should be added to prevent other joints.

  • Cool down: Make sure that you take adequate rest after you finish your practice or exercise session. Cool down properly after the training and in between the different exercises.

Treatment for Sports Injury

  • Regenerative Medicine: For sports persons, regenerative medicine is the best treatment. Since they have a better immune system, the injury can be fixed without any invasive surgery. This method heals the tear with the help of growth factors present in the body.
  • RICE Method: Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation are methods that help get rid of swelling and pain and also make recovery faster. It prevents any further minor injuries, which is why the delay in recovery is prevented.

With any of these methods, you should also try to make a comeback once a significant recovery is achieved.
